Some wedding days feel soft, unhurried, and naturally meaningful—and Rachel & Mark’s elopement at Sandy Beach in Cap-Pelé was exactly that. It was a warm, calm evening by the ocean, the kind where the tide is low, the breeze feels gentle, and everything seems to slow down just enough to let you take it all in.
I arrived early to walk the shoreline and plan out the best spots for their ceremony. With wildfires affecting much of Canada this summer, the smoke in the air created a hazy filter over the coastline, giving us an unexpectedly early sunset. The sky shifted into muted golds and soft pastels long before the horizon dipped, wrapping the entire beach in a dreamy glow.
Rachel and Mark chose to exchange their vows surrounded by the people who matter most—their children, now teenagers and young adults. The simplicity of the moment made it even more powerful. Standing barefoot in the sand, they promised their lives to each other while the waves rolled quietly behind them.
One of the most touching parts of the ceremony was the sand ceremony. Not only did Rachel and Mark pour their colours together, but each of their children participated as well, adding their own sand to the vase. Layer by layer, they created something beautiful and symbolic—a blended family, each person important and represented. Watching them all take part made the moment feel especially intimate, personal, and rooted in unity.
After signing their papers, the family gathered around as Mark opened a bottle of champagne. There were smiles, laughter, a few teary eyes, and the kind of effortless joy that comes from celebrating something deeply meaningful. Glasses were raised, hugs were shared, and the evening sun continued to soften around them.
As the tide pulled back, a shallow sandbar revealed itself—a perfect place for one last moment together before the light faded. Rachel and Mark stepped into the warm water and slow-danced as the sun set behind them. The breeze caught her dress, the water rippled gently around their feet, and for a few quiet minutes, it felt like the world belonged entirely to them.
Their elopement was simple, intentional, and full of heart. No fuss, no rush—just love, connection, and the family they’ve built together. A perfect reminder that the most meaningful weddings are the ones that stay true to what matters most.
