There’s something incredibly special about being invited back into a family to photograph another chapter of their story. In 2024, I photographed Melyssa and Michael’s wedding, where I first got to know their family and saw how close they all were—and how naturally Kamryn was already part of it. So when Melyssa’s sister, Kaitlyn, reached out about photographing her own wedding to Kamryn, I was so excited to be welcomed back. Two years later, I found myself surrounded by many of the same familiar faces, this time at the Student Union Building in Fredericton, celebrating Kaitlyn and Kamryn.
Kaitlyn and Kamryn are a little like yin and yang. At first, they can seem like opposites, each balancing the other in a way that feels completely natural. But as the day went on—especially once the speeches began—it became apparent that they might actually be much more alike than you might realize. Melyssa, Kaitlyn’s Maid of Honour, joked about how Kaitlyn has followed in her footsteps throughout her life, from what she studied in school and the career she chose to apparently even choosing the same wedding photographer. Then Kamryn’s brother stood up and, completely unintentionally, gave an incredibly similar speech about Kamryn. Hearing their siblings independently describe them in almost the same way had the entire room laughing and somehow summed them up perfectly: two people who can appear so different while being remarkably alike underneath it all.
Their love itself is quieter. It isn’t something they need to put on display because it’s constantly there in the little moments—the way they find each other’s eyes from across the room, a hand reaching for the other, a quick glance or subtle touch. But as beautiful as it was watching the love between Kaitlyn and Kamryn, what stood out to me most was just how loved they are together. Their families’ speeches made that incredibly clear. On both sides, there was so much genuine gratitude that these two had found one another and a beautiful sense that each family wasn’t simply welcoming their daughter’s partner—they were gaining another daughter. After photographing so many weddings, I can genuinely say there was something particularly special about being in a room where everyone seemed so completely happy that these two people had chosen each other.
And because Kaitlyn and Kamryn are Swifties, there were a few subtle Taylor Swift touches woven throughout the celebration. Friendship bracelet favours, purple details, beautiful flowers and Taylor playing throughout the reception added little pieces of their personalities without turning the day into a full theme. Like everything else about their wedding, it felt personal without being overcomplicated.
In the end, Kaitlyn and Kamryn’s Fredericton wedding wasn’t about putting on a show or creating a perfectly orchestrated day. It was simple, relaxed and filled with the people who mattered most to them. There were beautiful skies when we expected rain, hilarious speeches, familiar faces, friendship bracelets, Taylor Swift songs and countless quiet moments between two people who seem to balance each other in all the right ways. More than anything, though, there was love—the quiet kind between Kaitlyn and Kamryn, and the wonderfully obvious kind surrounding them from everyone lucky enough to celebrate alongside them.
It was such a privilege to be welcomed back into this family and trusted to photograph another one of their most important days. Congratulations, Kaitlyn and Kamryn.
