Emma and Nicolas’ engagement session was one of those evenings that didn’t go quite as planned—but ended up being unforgettable in all the best (and most unexpected) ways.
When we first started chatting about locations, we explored several options for their session, but nothing felt quite right. Then I shared a few images from a recent first look I had photographed at La Dive, a stunning rocky cliffside overlooking the ocean in Cap-Pelé. Emma instantly fell in love with the dramatic, coastal setting—and we knew we had found the perfect spot.
We met just before sunset with their sweet pup, Milo, in tow. He was full of excitement, eager to explore the cliffs and take in the salty breeze. The evening couldn’t have been more beautiful—calm waves, golden light, and a soft sunset painting the sky. But shortly after we arrived a serious medical emergency was happening just behind us. Emergency response vehicles quickly filled the narrow path, blocking us in and shifting the tone of the evening.
Milo, sensing the change in energy, grew nervous and uneasy. Unable to relocate, we did our best to focus on the love between Emma and Nicolas—capturing a few silhouette images with the rocky cliffs as a shield from the scene unfolding behind us. After a few minutes, we all agreed to pause and regroup.
Not long after, the emergency vehicles cleared out, and we decided to head to a beach just down the road. That decision changed everything. Milo had never been to a sandy beach before—and the moment his paws hit the sand, his joy returned in full force. He ran zoomies up and down the shore, and we couldn’t help but laugh along with the people nearby who were clearly just as entertained. The mood shifted entirely, and we wrapped up the session with genuine smiles, relaxed energy, and the sound of waves in the background.
While it wasn’t the evening we had originally envisioned, it was one full of real moments, unexpected memories, and the kind of storytelling that makes a session truly unique. Emma and Nicolas handled it all with so much grace—and Milo? He stole the show.
This session is one none of us will forget anytime soon—and I wish them the best on their upcoming wedding day, which I know will be just as beautiful (minus the ambulances, hopefully!).
