April and Matt’s wedding day unfolded high above the Northumberland Strait on a hot August afternoon, surrounded by sweeping coastal views and the people who know them best. It was the kind of day that felt full from the very beginning — not polished or quiet, but alive, emotional, and deeply personal.

They spent the morning getting ready together at their Airbnb, which quickly filled with movement and excitement as family and friends moved from room to room. It was busy in the best possible way — last-minute touches, shared laughter, and a constant hum of anticipation. While everyone hurried inside, the kids ran freely through the field outside, framed by open sky and ocean views, adding to the sense that this was less a staged wedding morning and more a gathering of loved ones in a place that felt like home.

Before the ceremony, April and Matt shared an emotional first look, carving out a quiet moment together before the day swept them away. Even with the wind already beginning to pick up, there was a stillness between them — a chance to breathe, connect, and take in what the day meant before standing in front of everyone they love.

The ceremony took place on the cliff overlooking the water, with the Northumberland Strait stretching endlessly behind them. The coastal breeze was constant, and as April walked down the aisle, her veil repeatedly lifted and drifted across her face. Eventually, one of her bridesmaids gently stepped in and removed it mid-ceremony — an unplanned moment that felt completely natural and perfectly suited to the day. After signing the papers, April and Matt shared an affectionate kiss, sealing the moment with emotion and joy.

Following the ceremony, we made our way down the cliff for bride and groom portraits in the full afternoon sun. The heat was intense and the light bold, but it suited them perfectly. These moments felt relaxed and intimate, with the coastline as their backdrop and the kind of ease that comes from simply being together, newly married.

Cocktail hour unfolded back at the Airbnb beneath a large willow tree, where guests gathered in the yard, chatting and catching up while family members prepared the meal for the reception. The celebration continued in a tent lovingly decorated by April’s family, filled with thoughtful details that made the space feel warm and personal. Emotional speeches brought laughter and tears before April and Matt shared their first dance — a choreographed routine set to “The Ordinary.” It was romantic and intentional, a reflection of the connection they share.

As they danced, storm clouds began to roll in, shifting the mood of the sky and casting everything in a dramatic, moody light. We stepped outside just in time to capture a few portraits beneath the darkening clouds before the rain began to pour, closing the day the same way it had unfolded — naturally, beautifully, and full of feeling.

April and Matt’s wedding was a reminder that the most meaningful days don’t need to be perfectly controlled. Sometimes the wind blows, plans shift, clouds roll in — and the story that unfolds is even better because of it.
